Mostly this was a decent campground, but expensive! The bathrooms were cleaned but should be cleaned twice a day: they really needed it. We were in a "large" site: not sure why they considered this "large". It was not large: was actually on the small side. The site next to us had their fire pit (not moveable) within 5 feet of our rig. Not a comfortable feeling. It would have been nice to have an adult pool but it was a ridiculously heated 92 degrees! Check-in time is not until 4pm and check-out time is by 10am so you really miss a whole day. This is a lousy policy.
Overpriced and very poor design in this campground. It's like the electric & water hook ups were an afterthought. In loop C the electric & water are shared with other sites. Shouldn't be a big deal but the hook ups are at the road - not in back! You MUST bring extra lengths of hose & electric cord (or make the trip to WalMart). Tough sites to back into with many, many trees left in odd places. Water in the shower was SCALDING HOT! Watch out!! Quiet hour was enforced but blaring loud music for 4 hours before quiet hour was allowed. Never know what jerk will end up next to your site! Note - we brought a dump tank and were told to dump the night before leaving. It's a good thing because with only 1 dump station it can take 2 or 3 hours waiting to dump.
The rest rooms need more attention, otherwise I would have rated this CG a 10. They were dirty and the shower curtains are torn and there is no soap in the restrooms. Reminder - never hike alone!
This cg gets only a 5 due to the bathrooms. They were very dirty and had no soap! The Chester loop was beautiful although we had quite a difficult time getting backed in to our site because of two tree stumps blocking our angle (our rv closed is 22 feet long). We were lucky that our rv holds 45 gallons of fresh water. We filled up in the Chester loop before getting to our site and as we were packing up we ran our of water! We will likely camp here again.
Would have ranked this campground higher but there are a number of issues that need to be addressed. 1) they let WAY TOO many people into the pool/waterpark. The staff seem to allow people (including adults) to rough house in the very crowded pool. Occasionally the life guard will blow the whistle at the people rough housing but no one ever was asked to leave the pool area. 2) Some families (not campers) are using the pool as a very cheap babysitting service. There were at least 5 pool rescues of children by lifeguards in a 45 minute span. Then there were no adults around to receive the children when the lifeguard brought the kids to the side of the pool. These lifeguards have a really tough job and they are only teenagers! The situation for not having parents supervise kids is extremely risky for this state park. A number of times an announcement was made on the loud speaker that a child needed to meet their mother/father/uncle at the gate to be picked up. 3) People at campsites use other sites as cut throughs to other areas like bathhouse, dock and trails. 4) People are taking dead wood from the forest area and burning it at their site. 5) Quiet hours were not enforced on Sunday night at all. 6) The water at the sites had a funny smell. Many in our group noticed it. Reason?? This campground is very nice overall and we will likely camp here again.
The two reasons this campground rates as a 5 are: it's too close to Rte 30 and is VERY noisy because of the constant traffic, and there is a problem in the bathhouse near the office - the sewer gases are not vented properly and the bath house stinks! Otherwise the entire campground was very, very clean (including the bath houses). They make you sign a paper that you will clean up after your pet or they will bill you. Not much for kids to do at the campground.
This is a great campground (unless you're near the freight train). We made reservations for next year already. Just wish they had more sewer sites! Otherwise would have rated it a 10.
The bathrooms were dated but clean. The shower area was very small. Views were nice. Didn't appreciate fireworks at 3:30 am!! Set off by seasonal teenagers maybe?? That's where problems usually occur.
